I-Search 500 words
I spoke with James Gillis. He is one of the janitors at the school. We had a discussion about how the ventilation system and the heating systems are turned off and on. I originally thought that it was the janitors who were the ones who turned it off before leaving and the ones who turned on when arriving at the school, but I was mistaken. Gillis had said that it was Town Hall who turned it off and on. He said that over the weekend the system is turned off when the school is remained closed, but when it is opened the heating system and ventilation systems are active. During the winter, the heating system is on during the school week, but during the night the system isn't at the same temperature as it is when the heater is active. It explains why every morning the school itself is chilly because the heater hasn't fully fired up. Gillis also mentioned that the newer building sections at BHS have a good ventilation system and the rest of the school has a poor system. I asked if it would be too much to get a new ventilation system and he said that money would be an issue if that was the case, but he did agree with me that cheap AC's in each classroom would be beneficial during the spring due to the hot weather. Gillis was very helpful with his in put on the ventilation system and heating system. I asked him if it would be worth it upgrading the hallways with the ventilation system and he said it would be more beneficial in classrooms because not much time is spent in the hallway.
I also observed many teachers and students during classes. I saw that some teachers as well as students complained about it being too cold when arriving in the classroom. My examples of teachers who have complained about the temperature and i have witness has been Mr. Fischer and my drama teacher Summer Williams. Observing my classmates, there was one significant complain during my F-block. The student walked out and came back 2 minutes later with a wet paper towel and put it on top of the thermostat. I noticed the room getting warmer and everyone cheering for him because he made it warmer in the classroom.
